Congressman Dennis Eckart, 22nd District, will discuss Legislative Perspectives for 1982: How Can We Fight and Win? on Friday, January 15, at 8:00 p.m at the Heights Main Library, 2345 Lee Road. The program is sponsored by Women Speak Out for Peace and Justice/WILPF. Tom Buffenbarger, representing the International Association of Machinists (IAM) will present the strategy of the labor movement against inhuman budget cuts and for human needs. Mr. Buttenbarger serves on the Machinists National Planning Committee which helped implement the half-million strong September 19 Solidarity Day rally for jobs and social justice. The meeting is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be served.
The Tenth Muse is pleased to announce the first half of its 1982 season. On January 16 the Coffeehouse at 202 N. Lincoln St. in Kent will reopen. featuring a Women's Film Night showcasing local and national filmmakers. Among the women whose films will be shown are Jesse Stump. Cindy Pintar, and Vida Christy. Also that evening will be a special showing of "Women Loving Women," a slide-tape presentation. The February 6 coffeehouse is not scheduled as yet. On February 20 an Open Mike Night will be held. Women poets, musicians, mimes, comedians, et al. are welcome to perform. The Coffeehouse opens at 8:00 pm. and entertainment begins at 9:30. A $1.00 donation is requested and snacks are available. In honor of the annual Martin Luther King celebration this month, the Western Reserve Historical Society will present a program on "Issues of the Philanthropic Movement in Cleveland and Their Relationship to the Black Community, 1910-1920," on Sunday, January 17. The speaker. Mrs. Adrienne Jones, an assistant adjunct professor for Black History at Cleveland State University, will focus on the work of Jane Edna Hunter (1882-1971). The program will begin at 2:00 p.m. at the Historical Society. 10825 East Boulevard in University Circle. There is free parking in the rear of the complex, and the lot is directly accessible from East 108th Street. Non-member admission fees are $2 for adults; $1 for children, students and seniors. The Reproductive Freedom Coalition will hold a fund-raising dinner January 18 at Earth by April to commemorate the Supreme Court abortion decision. Proceeds will go to the Planned Parenthood Medical Loan Fund. which finances abortions for low-income women, and to other pro-choice groups. For more information, call EFCO at 621-8224.
An evening of Growth and Networking will be held on January 19 at 6:30 p.m. at WomenSpace, 1258 Euclid Avenue. This will be an opportunity tor women interested in becoming involved in a feminist awareness group to share ideas and plan a group best suited to their interests and needs. A workshop on Women and Minorities and the Federal Budget will be held on Saturday, February 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Moot Courtroom, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, Cleveland State University, E. 18th Street and Euclid Avenue.
